Newburgh Priory

Newburgh Priory - wedding venue in North Yorkshire moors

Newburgh Priory – A Spectacular Venue In The Perfect Setting.

Newburgh Priory is a spectacular venue on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, with sweeping views – the perfect setting for a beautiful wedding day.

Originally founded in 1145 on land granted to Robert de Mowbray by William the Conqueror, Newburgh began life as an Augustinian Priory until the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII.
Sold for £1,062 to a chaplain in 1549, it became a private residence which it remains to this day…complete with its stories of political shenanigans, curses, and rumours that this is the final resting place for the body of Oliver Cromwell!

The venue

A wedding at Newburgh Priory means you enjoy exclusive use of the house and gardens – your very own stately home for the day.

The Priory’s civil ceremony license allows you to say your vows in one of three stunning Georgian rooms, ideal for gatherings from the small and intimate or for up to 100 guests (with more to follow in the evening).

Alternatively, you can hold your legal ceremony elsewhere and enjoy your dinner and dancing at the Priory, in a marquee of your choice.

For Dinner and Dancing, the Priory has three fabulous marquee sites, designed to suit from 100 to 300 guests, although larger numbers are possible. There is also ample parking on site.

Exclusive use means you have access to the house from 8am until midnight on your wedding day. Or, if you opt for a marquee, you also have access to the site the day before, from 8.30am-6.30pm, to decorate and make your own.

The Accommodation

Although the Priory doesn’t feature accommodation on site, there’s an abundance of options on the doorstep in the village of Coxwold. Newburgh House, in particular, stands at the gates of the Priory so you can enjoy your first night as bride and groom a stone’s throw away, with your guests staying locally too.
